Are you ever sick of all the Work At Home Mom (WAHM) FB groups, the blogs and Pinterest pins about moms who have noses to wipe & paci's to pick up... the silent suggestion we empty nester moms, who barely get a call once a month from our dry nosed kids, are chomping at the bit for that
"rise & shine" grind, unencumbered by baby formula & diapers, we jump in the long commute line to work long hours a day dictated to by a " boss" and with no hungry mouths waiting back at the house, we're more than contented to work our piggies off into the wee hours of the night...after all, we're career women now, the kids are all "growed" up... we're charged & ready to go....rrrright? Wrong...for me personally, nothing could be further from the truth!
Rocking my gold readers, and my new empty nest sofa, I'm one who wishes I could still don the "work at home mom" title; it seems to legitimatize my utter disdain and loathsome sentiments toward the brick and mortar. I get the sniffles & shakes just thinking about the nine-five, Monday through Friday, 52 weeks a year imprisonment; perhaps a harsh way of describing it but that is what it is in my humble experience.
But seriously, being a mom of small kids seems to make wanting to work from home logical and legitimate. Therefore, the WAHM crew get the cute logos and chat room groups filled with diaper bag toting moms who rightfully want to stay at home, they have the corner market on jobs that can be done from home... But for some reason us moms of older kids, well it's just somehow understood that once our kids are of school age that we are somehow just chomping at the bit to go back to the traditional route of working and nothing could be further from the truth for me personally. So although I may not be able to sport the cool "baby on the hip" logo, looking for a job I can do in between feedings, I will continue to create any kind of logo or marketing material that represents my desire to be a fully autonomous and independently self employed woman and mom of adults.
Is this you? Are you a parent of a grown child or perhaps no kids at all? And do you also desire just to be free? Free to work your own hours, free to travel while you work? Free to choose your location day-to-day? (Starbucks on Monday, Barnes & Noble on Tuesday...)
